Prayer And Fasting

January 30th – February 1st

Something happens when you set aside time to seek the face of God. Fasting is a time where distractions are diminished. Biblical fasting always has to do with eliminating distractions for a spiritual purpose; it hits the reset button of our soul and renews us from the inside out. It also enables us to celebrate the goodness and mercy of God and prepares our hearts for all He desires to bring into our lives. I know God will move in your life during our 3-Days of Prayer and Fasting. Remember, the goal of fasting is to draw near to God. Make sure to seek medical advice if you have any physical concerns about fasting.

Day 1 Focus: Humility

Humility is important because it sets things in proper order and perspective. The enemy would have us thrown into arrogance and pride, which skews the lens in which we see the world and how we would see others. God wants better for us. It is when we clothe ourselves in humility that our hearts can see things clearly. Humility also blesses us to walk in true freedom, no longer weighed down by the weight of competition. It is in seeking a humble spirit that we can walk to be a blessing to others, a blessing to the Kingdom, and to be open to being blessed in return.

Part of following Christ is humbling one’s self. The Lord Himself humbled Himself as a human to walk among us, so if we are to truly follow His lead, humility becomes part of our own walk. Becoming humble allows for us to have open hearts and minds to move and be moved by the Spirit of God. Walk humbly, love mercy, and seek His heart this day.

How do we gain the mind of Christ and humble ourselves? To put on the mind of Christ, we will need to make a firm decision to ponder, understand, and adopt Jesus’ way of thinking; his values and attitudes must become ours. His strong emphasis on humility and meekness and his example of it must take hold of our thinking, our desires and our conduct. We must admire his humility and want it for ourselves. For this to happen, we need to earnestly and regularly pray for the Holy Spirit to change our hearts, for it is impossible to do it in our own strength.

Prayer For A Humble Heart:

Lord, I pray for my heart to be in the position of humility. Humility in such a way that I do not cheapen my own worth or value, but that I realize I am here for a greater purpose than just my own gain. I ask that you will show me what it truly means to live a humble life and have a humble heart before you. I want to live in freedom and right standing with you Lord, so I repent of my sins and ask you to forgive me. I repent of the pride in my life and ask you to change me. Lord, I welcome you in today to mold and shape my heart so I can truly walk in humility by your lead. In Jesus name, Amen

Day 2 Focus: Guidance And Direction

Throughout Scripture we are reminded of God’s direction over our lives. He is the good Shepherd who leads us if we we would look to Him for guidance. The Bible teaches us that God’s plan leads to joy and contentment. When we pray for God’s guidance and discernment through the Holy Spirit, we can rest assured that God will provide wisdom! We do not have to worry about our next step or about tomorrow because we know it’s the Lord who guides our way! Do not rush into your day without going before God to seek guidance and direction.

We have our own ideas of how our life should look, often setting out according to our plans. What we need to ask is for the the Holy Spirit to prompt us when we set out to make plans, that we would make them according to His will and not our own will. We should ask that He reminds us to come alongside Him as we surrender every detail of our lives to fulfill His greater purpose. His ways are higher than ours and His plans are greater than ours, and nothing is impossible with Him!

Prayer For Guidance And Direction:

Lord, I’m here today with open hands and an open heart, ready to depend on you to help me through the day and all it will bring my way. Help me come to you for guidance, direction, strength, provision, and protection. As I face tough choices and hard situations, help me remember that I am Your child and Your representative to the world around me. Help me live today in a way that brings honor to Your holy name. Lord, I trust in you to lead me every step of the way. In Jesus name, Amen

Day 3 Focus: Praise And Thanks

Having a thankful heart can change your entire perspective and outlook on life. One of the best ways to experience the power of thanksgiving is to through prayer and praise. Even in the midst of hardship, job loss, sickness and trials, we can experience God’s blessings. When we offer praise and thanks to God, our focus shifts from our problems to God’s blessings. And that’s the beauty of faith – we can experience gratitude and give thanks despite the circumstances and storms that surround us.

You get to choose every day to give God thanks. Start by expressing your gratitude today for His faithfulness and love in your life. Thank God for his sovereign control over your life. Thank God for the hope and joy that is available through Him regardless of how you may be feeling in the moment. Let him change your heart to strengthen you with His peace. The best way to defeat satan’s attacks of disappointment, fear, and worry is through a grateful heart! We surely have so much to be thankful for because of the gift of salvation through Jesus Christ and the peace He offers. Let’s learn to thank God for all seasons of this wonderful life.

Prayer For A Gratfule Heart:

Dear God, I hate to say it, but I have been guilty of grumbling and griping about all my problems and trials. Many times I have failed to be thankful and to remember that You are at work in my life, even through all the troubles.

Please forgive me, God. I want to be a person who keeps my eyes on You and praises You, no matter what may come my way. So, thank you God for these blessings (name them) and these challenges (name them). I know You are in control of all things.

I know You love me and work all things together for my good. I choose to trust You, Lord. Teach me to be a “praiser” who always finds the good in you and not a complainer who always finds the bad in any situation.

Thank You for the sacrifice you made for me on the cross. Thank You for helping my heart to rest in Your presence. In a busy world, it is here that I find truth, grace, and mercy. My heart is overwhelmingly grateful. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Types of Fasts

Complete Fast

In this type of fast, you drink only liquids, typically water with light juices as an option.

Selective Fast

This type of fast involves removing certain elements from your diet. One example of a selective fast is the Daniel Fast, during which you remove meat, sweets, and bread from your diet and consume water and juice for fluids and fruits and vegetables for food.

Partial Fast

This fast is sometimes called the “Jewish Fast” and involves abstaining from eating any type of food in the morning and afternoon. This can either correlate to specific times of the day, such as 6:00 am to 3:00 pm, or from sunup to sundown.

Soul Fast

This fast is a great option if you do not have much experience fasting food, have health issues that prevent you from fasting food, or if you wish to refocus certain areas of your life that are out of balance.

For example, you might choose to stop using social media or watching television for the duration of the fast and then carefully bring that element back into your life in healthy doses at the conclusion of the fast.
